How to Change the Attribution Widget

Every Tuesday, I'll try to get a new post out concerning some major blogging tips, ones that will make your blog look better than ever! (all of these tips will require you to be a blog admin)

First, I'll discuss how to change that attribution thing at the bottom of your blog-- and no, I don't mean just putting your copyright. I mean getting that annoying "Powered by Blogger" text off of there, huh? Follow these steps . . .

1. Log into Blogger as usual and select Template.

2. Look on the screen and find "Edit HTML". Click that, and then find the "Jump to Widget" button. Select it, and then find the button that says Attribution1 (it should be somewhere near the top kinda).

3. You will automatically be directed to a long list of code. Without moving anything, simply look at the top of the code box and you should see Attribution1 somewhere in it.

4. Find the words locked='true' and change the word true to false.

Basically what you're doing is telling the program that the attribution widget is no longer "locked" in place. Locked is not "true" anymore, but now "false" (coding has some very high ethical standards).

5. Go to the Layout page and scroll down until you see the Attribution widget. Click on edit. You should now see a remove button!

6. Oh wait, you still want copyright? You just didn't want that Powered by Blogger thing? Oh, gotcha.  Okay, well you can do that, too. First, after you save the new layout, make a new widget (but not in the area where the attribution once stood. It won't work there).

7. Select the "Text" one. To make it look nice, you'll want to center the words. To do that, switch the HTML version of the widget and copy/paste the code

into the box. Type in what you want your copyright to say directly after the code. Also remember to keep the title of the widget blank.

(the red underline shows where the change-to-HTML button will be).

8. Finally, save the Text widget and drag in into the bottom footer/attribution area.

Volia!
